   The future tense

   • Make predictions, promises, and quick decisions
   • Describe what will be happening at a particular time
   • Say what will be completed by a future deadline
   • Explain how long an activity will have continued by then

7. Lesson 7

   Questions

   • Turn statements into yes-or-no questions
   • Ask for details with who, what, where, when, why, and how
   • Use the correct word order and auxiliary verb

8. Lesson 8

   The passive voice

   • Choose when to focus on an action rather than who performs it
   • Build passive sentences in the present, past, and future
   • Change active sentences into the passive without changing their meaning

9. Lesson 9

   Gerunds and other -ing forms

   • Use an -ing form as the subject or object of a sentence
   • Describe people, things, and actions with these forms
   • Recognize the role an -ing form plays in a sentence
